Grazie a DongbuFeng. CITAZIONEBook 2 Episode 1 Transcript
As most are aware by now, someone posted a low quality recording of Book 2 Episode 1 of Korra that was shown during the Comic-Con panel. We’re not going to link to it from here (seeing as how Nickelodeon did not want this recorded), but it’s out there if you want to find it (probably just search the Korra tag).
"From the Spirit World" Podcast co-host Mel has made a transcript of the episode, as best as she could decipher the lines from the episode. Check it out after the “Read More".
Lines marked with a question mark are best guesses, and places where just the speaker is noted were indecipherable.
Opening
Intro: Six months since Avatar Korra defeated Amon and the equalists. Since then the United Republic elected its first president. Tenzin’s brother Commander Bumi retired and moved to Air Temple Island. And Korra and boyfriend Mako have been the talk of the town. (missed next part because of cheering)
[A ship is sailing at night.]
(missed dialogue I think they are telling a ghost story couldn’t get much before spirit attack)
Guy: Uh sir.
Sir: What?
[the ship is attacked by a spirit]
Guy: Man overboard! Man overboard!
[Cut to title card and then probending arena]
Announcer: Probending night in Republic City. And have we got a doozy for you! Fan favorites, the Fire Ferrets are about to take on hot newcomers the Rhino Lions!
Bolin: Now we all know that our last match was garbage. Terrible, even Pabu could’ve done a better job. (Pabu squeaks) But that’s in the past because when you back a fire ferret in the corner well mister he comes out fighting. (Pabu hisses) So let’s go out there and bend like there’s no tomorrow. Are ya with me?
[the other two Fire Ferrets stand there nervously and don’t answer]
[cut to the match where the Fire Ferrets are quickly knocked from the ring]
Announcer: Oooh the Fire Ferrets go down into the water and right into the record books for the fastest knock out in Probending history!
[Bolin pulls himself out of the water]
Bolin: Where’s Mako when I need him?
[cut to Mako chasing a truck on a motor cycle. He goes through an elaborate chace with the truck until he finally crashes the truck]
Mako: Looks like you had some car trouble. Good thing the police are here.
[cut to Asami’s plane touching down on a runway. Asami exits the plane and is approached by a Future Industries official]
Asami: I think these planes are finally ready to ship.
Official: I hate to mention the elephant-rhino in the room but since your father was thrown in prison, no company will work with us. We’re nearly bankrupt.
Asami: Don’t worry. I’m going to the South Pole to meet with someone who can help us put future industries back on top.
[Asami walks away confident but her face quickly falters]
[cut to Air Temple Island where Korra and the Airbending kids are racing on Air Scooters, the race across the island and nearly wipe out Pema at one point. Korra and Ikki are tied until Korra enters the Avatar State and shoots ahead to win the race. Bumi waves a flag at the finish line]
Bumi: (coughing) The Avatar is the winner!
Ikki: No fair! You can’t go into the Avatar State to win!
[Korra sticks her tongue out at Ikki. Tenzin approaches]
Tenzin: Korra! The Avatar State is not to be used as a booster rocket! It is a great power that you obviously do not appreciate.
Korra: It’s the Avatar State and I’m the Avatar. Who appreciates it more than me?
Tenzin: Clearly you need more training to grasp the depth (missed it). Not to mention you are still a long way from mastering Airbending.
Korra: I have mastered Airbending! (she fires off some air blasts) See mastered.
Bumi: Looks pretty good to me.
Tenzin: Do you think you could unretire from the United Forces?
Bumi: The paperwork’s gone through little brother. From now on it’s 24/7 BUMI TIME.
Tenzin: (missed the beginning because of cheering) Now you need to master real Airbending. Hopefully all the Air Temples will give you (more laughing blocked it out)
(I missed the exchange between the Airbending kids because of camera adjustment)
Jinora: That doesn’t make any sense
Ikki: You don’t make any sense!
Tenzin: No more fighting! We’re going to have a wonderful time! (didn’t get next part) I can finally relax with my family to give Korra the attention she needs.
Korra: Great more Air training…
Bumi: Relax…I’d pay money to see that. Maybe I’ll tag along just to see vacation Tenzin.
Tenzin: You’re not invited.
Korra: Before we go on your dad’s study trip we’re gonna have some real fun in my home town at the Glacial Spirit Festival. They’ got rides, games, and all kinds of fried food on a stick.
Kids: Yay!!
Bumi: Yep. There’s vacation Tenzin. And you can’t stop me from going to the festival, mom already invited me.
[Cut to ship bound for the South Pole at night. Mako, Korra, and Naga are sitting on deck]
Mako: So I looked up and said: looks like you had some car trouble good thing the police are here.
Korra: Did you write that beforehand?
Mako: Yeah I have a few others. (missed the next part because of laughter and then camera adjustment)
Korra: Ooh I like that one.
Mako: (missed beginning part) I knew that would come in handy. Beifong said if I keep it up I could make detective.
Korra: That sounds so fun. All I do is train all day. It’s like Tenzin’s totally forgotten how I beat Amon.
Mako: Tenzin’s just trying to help you be the best Avatar you can be.
Korra: Of course you take his side.
Mako: I’m not taking his side.
Korra: I’m gonna take a walk.
Mako: (missed but he says something about his “girlfriend”)
[Cut to arrival at the South Pole. The Airbending kids greet Katara and Kya]
Airbending kids: Gran Gran!
Katara: (missed it because of cheering)
Jinora: I missed you Aunt Kya.
Kya: I missed you too. Your father doesn’t come to visit nearly enough. He’s probably scared I’ll beat him up like when we were kids.
Tenzin: I’m not scared of you…anymore.
Korra: (to her dad) You remember Mako.
Tonraq: Certainly. I hope you’re not getting my daughter into anymore trouble in the city.
Mako: No…uh…I…I’m not.
Korra: Knock it off dad.
Bolin: Wow look at all these people who came out to greet us.
Korra: Uh, no they came to greet them.
[across the water a large and ornate Water Tribe ship approaches]
Tonraq: The great chief of the Northern Water Tribe come to grace us with his presence. Hurray.
Senna: (completely missed it, girl is a quiet talker)
[Cut to Unalaq and his children, Desna and Eska departing the ship]
Bolin: Whoa who are the lovely ladies?
Korra: That’s Eska and Desna, the chief’s children. Desna is a guy.
Bolin: Oh, oh I knew that uhhh…Which one is the guy?
Unalaq: Good to see you again Avatar Korra.
Korra: Good to see you.
Unalaq: Tonraq.
Tonraq: Brother.
[commercial break, cut to Unalaq, Tonrag, Korra, and Tenzin walking through the tribe]
Unalaq: It’s a shame you Southerners have abandoned all connections to the spirits (missed the next part)
Korra: I always love the Glacial Spirit Festival. It’s fun.
Unalaq: This festival used to be a solemn time passed in meditation. Now it’s just a chance to see some rude(?) stick an entire artic penguin in his mouth.
Tonraq: Forgive me, but it’s not the end of the world.
Unalaq: Tell that to the men who were being attacked by enemy spirits in southern waters. Some traditions have purpose.
Korra: Wait, spirits are attacking ships?
Unalaq: I’m surprised the Avatar doesn’t know about this. Apparently you haven’t been given all the information you needed. It would be my honor to instruct her in the spirit ways (missed the next bit)
Korra: (missed it but Korra says something about focusing on Air training over spirit training)
Tonraq: Tenzin is Korra’s instructor. He can give her all the training she needs.
Unalaq: So it seems.
[cut to Asami and Bolin going to meet Varrick]
Asami: I’m glad you could make it to this meeting. Varrick is one of the richest man in the world and he controls the entire global shipping business. You’re my assistant. Just stand there and don’t say anything.
Bolin: No problem. Pabu and I are natural assistants. 9they board the boat0 Man this is nice. (missed the next part)
[cut to inside the yacht, Varrick seems to be meditating on something before stopping]
Varrick: Did ya see that? (missed the middle) Is that incredible or what?
[his audience cheers in wonder as he bows]
Bolin: You look like you were just sitting on a pillow.
Varrick: Are you saying I wasn’t levitating?
Bolin: Ummm….no?
Varrick: Well why didn’t anyone tell me? Now I look like an idiot! You’re fired! (he used a name but I didn’t get it) I like you kid you’re a real straight shooter just like me. This bucko, he’s with you? (Asami nods) Brought your tiger shark with ya to do business huh! Now then get over here and pop a squat. Ju Lee get tea for my guests!
Asami: Thank you for meeting with me. As you know, Future Industries is looking for a partner to handle our shipping.
Varrick: Certainly! But first you gotta check out my new venture! Moving pictures! Ju Lee do the thing! You’re gonna love this! (the servant starts a projector that shows a moving image of an ostrich-horse) Mind blowing right? Now forget that! That’s the past! Shut it off Ju Lee! You want big? (calls a woman by name but I didn’t catch it) Get over her, do your poses! (a woman comes over a strikes numerous poses) Fantastic! We’ve got a story here. Romance, action, some animal stuff for the kids you know whatever (missed the next part) How about that tiger shark? We’re gonna do big business with these movers as I call them.
Asami: Okay…but I’m really concentrating on getting Future Industries back on track. If we could hammer out the details—
Varrick: Stop. (don’t know what he says but he gets directly in Asami’s face and they have a stare down) We got a deal! We’ll hammer out the details at the royal feast tonight. Now. Who wants a rocket boat ride?
[Varrick and his guests leave and Asami hugs Bolin]
Bolin: (missed what he said)
Asami: You are a natural assistant!
[cut to a large feast in a hall of ice. Korra, her parents, Unalaq, and his children sit at the head table]
Korra: This is a wonderful feast in your honor uncle.
Unalaq: This is nothing. When this festival was founded (missed it but he talks about a what he did at the old festivals)
Korra: Wow, I’ve never seen that.
Unalaq: That is a shame. The Avatar (missed it) the material world and the spirit. That is why I want so badly to teach you. To help you.
Tonraq: I thought I made it clear that Tenzin teaches her.
Unalaq: Every Avatar before you traveled the world learning. It was Tenzin and your father kept you secluded in the South Pole.
Korra: I thought Aang wanted the White Lotus to keep me down here.
Tonraq: We hoped it would be more beneficial (?)
Korra: My training is my decision dad. Not yours. Or Tenzin’s.
[cut to across the room where Tenzin, Bumi, Kya, and Katara sit at a table and have heard everything]
Bumi: Looks like someone is trying to take your place up as the Avatar’s stick in the mud mentor.
Kya: Bumi don’t pick on Tenzin. You know he’s already sensitive.
Tenzin: I’m not sensitive!
[Bumi and Kya laugh as Kya pokes him as Katara does not smile. At the head table Unalaq rises to give a speech]
Unalaq: As your chief, it is my honor to speak at this festival which was founded to bring our tribes together and restore the balance (?) between our world and that of the spirits. But I am saddened to see what it has become. (missed the next part do to camera adjustment) I feel the time has come when northern tribe can no longer stand by idly while our southern brothers slip into total spiritual decay. Angry spirits are already attacking ships in your waters. I only hope we are not too late to change course.
[he sits and Varrick gets up]
Varrick: Chief Unalaq everybody, always great to have him around. Now let’s have some fun with (missed the name) Wacky Otter Penquins!
[Performers rise to give a Waterbending show. Then cut to festival later that night where Mako and Korra are feeding each other cotton candy while a disgusted Bolin stands nearby. Bolin then spots Eska and Desna]
Bolin: (clears throat) Wish me luck! I’m making my move!
Mako: Good luck.
Korra: Those two have always freaked(could be creeped) me out. They smell like a grandma’s attic(?)
Bolin: Hey! Bolin friend of Korra. You’re Eska right? Wow I love your robe. So, you two are from the North right? Cool that’s my favorite direction.
Desna: (missed it)
Eska: Perhaps it would be interesting to spend time with a person who enjoys (missed it). You amuse me. I will make you mine.
Bolin: (missed because of laughter)
Eska: (missed it, I think she said “it doesn’t matter”)
[cut to carnival game with Korra and Mako]
Korra: (missed because of laughter)
Mako: Sounds good. What’s Tenzin say?
Korra: Tenzin thinks I’m (missed it). I’m one of the kids. (says more complaining about Tenzin’s training)
[Korra angrily Waterbends, winning the carnival game]
Game guy: We have a winner! (he gives her an Appa plushie)
Korra: (missed the beginning because of audience) There’s an imbalance and as the Avatar it’s my job to fix it. My dad doesn’t want to even think about Unalaq teaching me. Well?
Mako: Well what?
Korra: What do you think I should do?
Mako: I think you should do what you think is right. I support whatever decision you make.
Korra: Oh thanks. That’s a big help.
Mako: I thought you wanted me to be supportive. Now you want me to tell you what I think? Make up your mind.
Korra: Just forget it. (she shoves the plushie at him and walks away)
[cut to later that night when everyone is asleep, Naga gets up and goes outside]
Korra: Naga what are you doing?
[Naga howls, Korra runs outside to quiet her]
Korra: Naga! Quiet Naga you’ll wake everyone up!
[Naga continues to howl, Bolin and Mako appear]
Bolin: What’s going on?
[in the distance Korra sees a dark entity speeding toward them]
Korra: What is that?
[a fight ensues between the spirit and Korra, Mako, and Bolin]
Bolin: Got it! (misses) Don’t got it!
[Tonraq and Tenzin both appear and begin fighting the spirit]
Tenzin: Korra!
[fight continues]
Tenzin: (calls the spirit by name I think) Why are you angry with us? What have we done to offend you?
(Unalaq appears and begins bending water in such a way that the spirit is covered in light and then disappears)
Unalaq: Go in peace.
(Tenzin and Tonraq run over)
Tenzin: Korra! Are you alright?
Korra: How were you able to control the spirit when no one else could?
Unalaq: As your father will tell you I have spent my life studying spirits. Learning their ways. All this knowledge is (missed). I could teach you everything I know.
Tenzin: Chief Unalaq. Clearly you are very knowledgeable. But Korra still has much to learn about Airbending. And I hope going to the Air Temples will help her connect with the past Avatars.
Korra: But—
Unalaq: The Air Temples will teach her nothing. Only I (missed it but something about the Avatar)
Tonraq: I hope that will not happen.
Korra: Hey! I’m right here! Anyone want to ask me what I think?
Tenzin: Korra please listen to me.
Korra: I’m tired of listening to you. Both of you. You keep me locked up telling me you know what’s best. Both of you were powerless against the spirit attack.
Korra: I think it’s time that I found a new teacher.
Tonraq: Now Korra—
Korra: Unalaq has proven to be the only one who knows what I need to learn. I have to go with him.
Tenzin: Please I know your angry, but we’ve come so far together.
Korra: I’m sorry Tenzin. This is as far as we go.
Tenzin: It has been a pleasure serving you (?)
The recording cuts off here. There is more to the episode, and here’s a plot summary of the end of the episode from elventhespian:
“Korra’s amazed that he was able to manage the spirit, and he points out his familiarity with spiritual affairs again. This seems to be the finally point for her, and she decides to go with Unalaq—basically dismissing Tenzin from his role as her teacher. Tenzin seems a bit hurt by this and formally bids Korra something of a farewell.
He still intends to tour the Air Temples with his family. Katara mentions he “forgot something,” with Kya and Bumi beside her—reminding him that theyr’e his family too. A little note about not taking siblings for granted, just to rub Sokka salt into our Airbender wounds, and Tenzin agrees to take his siblings along for the ride.
Korra confides in Mako one last time, asking him if she made the right decision. He tells her to follow her heart, and it will turn out right. He seems to have picked the “right answer” this time, as she is comforted and weaves her fingers into his."
